James Corcoran is a prominent contemporary art dealer and advisor whose career has spanned over 50 years.   

He started Corcoran & Corcoran in 1971 and moved to West Hollywood to establish the James Corcoran Gallery in 1973. The James Corcoran Gallery exhibited artists including Billy Al Bengston, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, Ken Price, John McLaughlin, Cy Twombly, Willem de Kooning, John Chamberlain, John Baldessari, Allen Jones, Chuck Arnoldi, Laddie John Dill, Joseph Cornell, and Richard Diebenkorn among other influential Los Angeles artists.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, it was known to be one of the premier contemporary galleries in Los Angeles. He featured remarkable Contemporary artists in exhibitions such as “LA When It Began” which featured 23 west side artists such as Peter Alexander, Ed Ruscha, Ken Price, Sam Francis, Ed Moses, and Ron Davis. 

Corcoran partnered with Leo Castelli and Richard Feigen, establishing Castelli Feigen Corcoran. There he primarily managed the estate of Joseph Cornell and produced several significant Cornell Catalogs. Castelli Feigen Corcoran exhibited works by Joseph Cornell, Yves Klein, James Rosenquist, Edward Ruscha, and Robert Wilson. He was also a founding partner of C&M Arts and Kayne Griffin Corcoran.
